PPSG AGM & Conference 2015

The Post Polio Support Group holds its Annual General Meeting and Conference 2015 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Blanchardstown Town Centre, Dublin 15 on Monday 18th May. The day opens at with registration from 10am, with our Guest Speaker Mary O’Rourke opening the Conference at 12pm, followed by lunch, the AGM and various Workshops. For many Polio Survivors the day gives them an opportunity to have a say in the running of the Group, but also to meet and network with fellow Polio Survivors from all over the country. This is a valuable support for many and is popularly attended. Registration in advance is essential.

Guest Speaker at the Conference will be Mary O’Rourke, former TD and Government Minister. The theme of her speech will be Resilience; Facing Difficulties and overcoming them – as so many Polio Survivors have had to do in their lives. There will also be 2 Workshops taking place between 3pm and 4pm; attendees must choose which Workshop to attend:

Workshop A
3:00 – 4:00p.m. Discussion session led by the Social Support Committee. The Committee has been working on what structures are needed within the PPSG, to support the activities identified at the Regional Meetings that were held last autumn. This workshop provides an opportunity for the Committee to share its thoughts and suggestions and to further consult with members on the way forward.

Workshop B
3:00 – 3:30p.m. Presentation by Brian Kinsella, Chairperson of the Irish Association of Prosthetists and Orthotists, about obtaining suitable callipers, splints and other orthotics.

3.30-4.00 p.m. Presentation and Demonstration by Siel Bleu, an organisation that runs an exercise programme for older people.

There will be a number of information tables at the Conference, including the book stall so please feel free to bring unwanted books along.

Directions

The hotel is situated beside the Blanchardstown Shopping Centre, just off the N3 Navan Road, close to Junction 6 off the M50 motorway. It is also easily accessible by bus or taxi from Dublin city centre. Dublin Bus routes 17a, 37, 39, 39a, 76a, 220, 236, 238, 239, 270 go to the Blanchardstown Centre while the Bus Eireann service 109 stops close to the hotel. As you enter the hotel grounds, there is parking at the front of the building or you may go into the underground car park where a lift will bring you to Reception on the ground floor, or the conference centre (Heather Suite) on the 1st floor. Assistance will be available from and to the car parks on Saturday morning and evening.
