Air Travel Report

Barriers for travellers with disabilities

About 7 in 10 people with disabilities experience discrimination when flying in Europe, even though there are laws meant to support them.

Common problems include being refused boarding, not getting clear information, having mobility aids damaged or mishandled, and dealing with different rules at different airports. These issues can lead to missed flights, long delays, and broken equipment.

The European Disability Forum says things need to improve. They are calling for better enforcement of the rules, more accessible airports, better staff training, acceptance of support people and assistance dogs, and simpler ways to make complaints—so people with disabilities can travel safely and with respect.
