Why Support Us?

We are the only organisation in Ireland providing practical support (and sometimes more importantly a listening ear) to those unfortunate enough to have contracted polio when babies or young children.

Polio is gone from Ireland, but the legacy of polio is the ongoing support and help required by polio survivors. There are thought to be 5,000 polio survivors in Ireland, all who will have increasing needs as they age.

Currently we have a membership of over 1,000 people, most of whom contracted polio in early life. Many now experience problems with the Late Effects of Polio or Post Polio Syndrome (PPS).

Contact Emma or Megan in the office to find out more about our needs and how you can help, 01 8898920, email cdo@polio.ie.

We offer a comprehensive system of supports to polio survivors. Fundraising is key to knitting these together. The proceeds raised are applied swiftly and directly to meet a variety of survivor needs. Fundraising complements the funding from the HSE, which covers administration and certain service provisions. Most importantly, as a result of the generosity of donors and funders, we are better able to respond to the needs of polio survivors, particularly in stressful or emergency situations.

Polio survivors are still here and our organisation exists to help all those who had polio as babies or young children – You can help us to keep polio survivors safe and independent as they age.
