NDA Launches Wellbeing Survey

NDA report

The National Disability Authority (NDA) recently launched its survey, ‘How’s it Going? A Survey on Wellbeing and Social Inclusion’.

The survey assessed the sense of belonging and value felt by people in their communities and the impact of marginal identities on wellbeing and social inclusion. The findings will inform NDA’s work and support disability organizations in creating inclusive communities.

NDA reportThe report provides valuable insights into the experiences of people with disabilities and the impact these experiences have on their wellbeing and social inclusion. By spreading awareness and advocating for inclusion, disability organisations have the opportunity to make a positive impact.

Key highlights from the report include:

  • People with disabilities are less included in society compared to those without disabilities.
  • Individuals with disabilities face more difficulties and have lower levels of wellbeing compared to those without disabilities.

It is refreshing to see the honest insights within this report into the daily struggles that many people with disabilities face, due to lack of access and how those challenges impact their wellbeing. Transport is a huge issue, access to primary healthcare services and GPs is another and the disparity between rural and urban services also greatly affects those with disabilities.

It was strongly noted that those in the position to make change and to provide resources to people with disabilities must be held accountable. Unfortunately for those with compromised mobility, in many cases this is only going to get more challenging – either as people age or if their conditions are degenerative – their needs cannot be ignored.
