How We Survived and Surprised

How We Survived and Surprised is another publication by Polio Survivors Ireland, which is available to purchase. It is a collection of personal stories, poems and images by Irish polio survivors, to highlight the legacy of Polio in Ireland. The book was edited by acclaimed writer, Geraldine O’Neill, herself a polio survivor.

The theme centres on a celebration of the valuable lives polio survivors have led regardless of the early and late effects of polio, and has been given the upbeat title ‘How We Survived and Surprised!’ to reflect that.

‘How We Survived and Surprised!’ highlights the bravery and tenacity of the group, and is filled with beautiful imagery and a good dash of humour. It is a fine collection of work, beautifully complemented by the artistic and skilled photography of member, Edwin Bailey and photographer, Eva Donlon.
