Demonstration for Disabililty Rights

For many disabled people in Ireland, the cost of living is significantly higher than it is for non-disabled people. Essential supports, from transport to medical devices, personal assistance, home heating, accessible housing, and mobility equipment can be quite costly . These are not luxuries. They are the basic tools that allow people to participate in society, maintain independence, and live with dignity.

Instead of easing financial pressure, the measures introduced in Budget 2026 have left many disabled people over €1,400 worse off.

Access for All, the Disability Federation of Ireland, Irish Wheelchair Association and countless disabled people and supporters we are urgently calling on the Government to introduce a targeted emergency winter payment for disabled people. This is not a long-term solution but it is an essential lifeline. Without immediate intervention, many are at risk of extreme hardship during the coldest months of the year. Disabled people should not be pushed further into poverty simply because they face disability-related costs that the broader population does not.

If you would be interested in joining this demonstration will be held at Dáil Éireann, outside Leinster House (Kildare Street side) next Tuesday 9 December, 12.30pm – 2pm.

This gathering is a demonstration of unity, resilience, and determination. It is a reminder to our elected representatives that disabled people deserve fairness, respect, and policies that reflect the real cost of living.
