What We Can Do For You

We assist polio survivors by providing practical aids and appliances such as callipers, customised footwear, electric scooters and wheelchairs. We also help survivors access Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Counselling and Respite Breaks, and we help those at risk of hypothermia with assistance with their heating bills.

We have a network of support groups around the country, we provide a telephone support service for those who are socially isolated and we publish an internal magazine “Survivor” three times a year.

Any of the estimated 5,000 polio survivors in Ireland can contact us for support irrespective of whether they are a member or not.

Contact Kerrie or Ciara on +353 1 889 8920 to find out how we can help, or for advice on our range of support services which you can view below.

Get Support

Aids & Appliances:

We can facilitate the provision of stair lifts, callipers, bespoke footwear, electric scooters and wheelchairs. We also provide funding for many items to relieve fatigue, such as perching stools and special chairs to make daily living tasks easier for polio survivors.

Physiotherapy & Chiropody

We can arrange for polio survivors to receive physiotherapy treatment designed to alleviate pain and ease muscle and joint problems.  This is one of the main areas of treatment, which can be of great assistance to polio survivors in maintaining their quality of life. Polio survivors can also receive treatment from chiropodists, which can relieve pain or soreness and increase comfort while walking or taking part in other activities.

Respite care breaks

We can organise for polio survivors and their carers to avail of short periods of rest and relief where necessary.  A short relaxing break can relieve weariness and lift your spirits.

Occupational therapy services

We can arrange for polio survivors to be assessed for a variety of equipment that they may require and receive professional advice on adapting their living environments to maximise their mobility and independence. Specialist help can make a big difference to comfort and wellbeing.

Counselling

We can coordinate counselling support for polio survivors should they require it.  You can get constructive support from working with a professional counsellor. We also run telephone support and social support groups, which can connect polio survivors to peers who understand their experiences.

Information & advocacy

We provide information to polio survivors and advocate on their behalf to ensure they can live as independently as possible with dignity. We signpost survivors to relevant statutory services and we often undertake personal advocacy on their behalf to ensure their needs and circumstances are understood and taken into account.
