Information For Health Professionals

Many health professionals do not regularly see polio survivors in their practices. As a result, and given the eradication of the disease, there are many issues that impact on those who have had polio, that health professionals may not be aware of.

If you have a polio survivor as a patient, we would be happy to furnish you with a hard copy of our ‘Blue Book’ – also known as ‘Post Polio Syndrome – Management and Treatment in Primary Care’.

We have recently developed a new leaflet, for Health Professionals, a guide on the residual effects of polio, plus the neurological condition, Post Polio Syndrome (PPS).

This leaflet gives an shorter overview of these conditions, with some practical information on management and intervention.

You can request a copy by contacting 01 889 8920, or email info@polio.ie, click on the image, or download it here: Late_effects_of_Polio_Leaflet.

Additionally we have leaflets and other information, including our ‘Medical Alert Card’ which we encourage our members to carry.

You can visit our publications page for some of the patient information leaflets.

If you have any specific queries that aren’t answered in our publication or on our website, please don’t hesitate to contact our Service Coordinators who may be able to assist you, or direct you for further expert information. Call Kerrie or Ciara on 01 889 89 20.

We would also ask you to encourage your patients to sign the Polio Register, which will help us to campaign for better services for polio survivors.
