Vera Keatings

Dr Vera Keatings is a respiratory consultant with thirty-five years’ experience working in hospitals in Ireland and the United Kingdom. She held the post of Consultant Physician in Respiratory & General Medicine in Letterkenny University Hospital, Donegal, from 2000 to 2022.

In 2017 she was appointed as Dean of Donegal Medical Academy, University of Galway, and was Associate Academic officer, being responsible for both undergraduate and postgraduate medical training in Donegal.

Prior to this she was a Lecturer in Medicine and a Locum Consultant in St. Vincent’s University Hospital, Dublin. Dr Keatings also served in various clinical and research roles in the Royal Brompton National Heart and Lung Institute, London. She obtained her Doctorate of Medicine (NUI) by original thesis in 1996.

Dr Keatings was conferred as Hon. Personal Professorship in Medicine by the University of Galway until her retirement in 2023. She has published twenty-plus peer-reviewed articles in medical journals, authored two book chapters, and has been a speaker and panellist at many scientific and clinical meetings. 

She is a member of the MRCPI General Medicine Part 1 exam board and a Fellow of Royal College of Physicians of Ireland. 

Vera was appointed as a Board Nominated Director in 2024 and is currently on the Service Quality & Safety Board Sub-Committee.
